It is a distinction awarded by the Rector Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center of the UBA since 1998 (more than a quarter of a century ago), organized by the Area of History and Theory of Theater.
This year, the World Theatre Awards for the 2024 performing arts season were presented. This marks a new update to the awards, following the hiatus caused by the pandemic. The 2019 and 2020-2021-2022 awards were presented in 2024, and the 2023 awards were presented in July 2025. The 2025 season awards will be presented in June 2026.
For this 25th edition, the Jury is made up of 49 researchers and critics from the UBA and special guests from CABA and various parts of the country, under the coordination of Jorge Dubatti.
The aim of the Teatro del Mundo Awards is to highlight excellence in different areas of Argentine and international theater, across all circuits. The Teatro del Mundo Awards present Diplomas for Outstanding Works (not nominations) and one Award in each category.
It is worth noting that, among the 19 categories of theatrical activity that are considered, the following stand out for their uniqueness: Theatrical Adaptation, International Shows, Translation, Essay Writing, Work in Editing, Magazines (specialized or with sections on theater), Institutions, Theatrical Photography, Choreography/Choreographic Direction, Design of Puppets, Scenic Objects and Mechanisms and Theater for Children.
Special Awards, a Tribute Award (corresponding to a deceased artist) and a Career Award are also given.
Some criteria used by the World Theatre Award Jury to select artists and shows are: excellence in poetics, innovation and/or experimentation in the theatrical field, originality, creativity, low visibility in mass media, and the initiation or first steps of emerging artists.
